All About Me

I became a florist in 1999, training at Merrist Wood College in Surrey and the Royal Berkshire College.

Since then I have worked in various florists, gaining experience as I went.

My last post was at the House of Flowers in Birmingham, where I worked for an excellent florist who specialized in Weddings. They taught me a lot, how to speak to clients and to take them through the process of choosing the correct flowers for their wedding, making up quotes, and being organized on the day and most important of all, having a satisfied client at the end of their day.

In 2006 my husband's job bought us back down to Surrey  (where I am originally from), I decided to find another florist as good as The House of Flowers would be a challenge, so I set my own challenge and set up my own business, working from my home.  After completing a number of weddings, I was able to take on another member of staff on a freelance basis (she has now taken over Tamara's Blooms in Dorking).

In April 2010 my family and I moved to the North Coast of Cornwall, where I set up my second business to run along side Tamara's Blooms - T&M Arts and Crafts.

In January 2013 we decided the North Coast of Cornwall was a bit remote and as half my catchment area was sea, I was lacking something, the opportunity came up to move next door to my parents, so we are now based in Clayhidon near Cullompton (but actually closer to Taunton!) and the best thing is I have the use of a large room in a barn.

I try to keep my costs down, thus not having to pass that cost on to my clients, I actually drive around in an old car which has a great big dent in the side, thanks to my husband! Working from home means I can keep my costs down. I rely mainly on my website for advertising and word of mouth, I also write to vicars and managers of local reception venues, a few of which I have a good relationship with now.

As there are a number of Cornish and Devon flower growers in the area, I try to use these where possible, thus cutting down on air miles and supporting local businesses (sometimes however I do have to use other companies as not all flowers are available in this country).

I have completed a number of weddings, please see my client feed back on my testimonials page.
